Sunset on the Beach is a Hawaiian mixture of a beautiful day on the beach with a drive-in movie theatre, sprinkled with a lot of Hawaiian music and fantastic food. Sunset on the Beach is a "must-do" for anyone vacationing on Oahu, especially if you are staying anywhere near Waikiki Beach. All of Waikiki Beach comes alive on these select Saturday and Sunday nights, and it would be a terrible thing to miss such a vibrant scene of people loving life here in Hawaii.
On special weekends at Waikiki Beach, the City & County of Honolulu present Sunset on the Beach, which is highlighted with a free movie on a giant 30-foot screen, right on the sand here at Waikiki Beach.
Live Hawaiian music and other performances are there for everyone to enjoy for free, two hours before the movie starts (which is normally after it begins to get dark after sunset, but don't come just for the movie, come early).
If you are hungry, many local restaurants are set up at Sunset on the Beach for you to choose from. Grab a bite to eat at one of their food booths, walk around and meet people, enjoy the surfers and boogie boarders playing in the waves, and of course enjoy the beautiful sunset here at Waikiki Beach.
There are free chairs provided, but many people will be there. So bring your towels, bring the kids, bring whatever it is you want, and come and enjoy yourself at one of the places to be in Waikiki.
